The idea with this counter is the desire to use a small/simple
graphics library to create an image for the counter on demand, vs
either individual images for digits or text.  Unlike "bug" -- this
counter returns an image to display for the count.  Unlike multi --
this counter uses only a single call to the server and returns a
single image.  v2 of this counter *does* account for concurrency.
